About me
I’ve worked in books my entire life, starting at the David A. Howe Public Library in Wellsville, NY when I was 15 years old. In college I began working in the bookstore, a career that lasted fifteen years. I received my MFA in creative writing from Chatham University in 2004. Since graduate school I have been in love with traveling and writing about the South, moving first to Savannah, Ga, then Kentucky, South Carolina, before setting in 2011 in Asheville, North Carolina.
My first book – Historical Inns of Asheville, came out in 2013. I explore a lot of the lesser known historical aspects of the town on my blog here: https://ashevillehistoricinns.wordpress.com
After having my daughter I quit the textbook business, and began working for Biblio.com, the largest independent online book marketplace. You can find a lot of my content about books on that site as well: https://www.biblio.com/blog/author/amanikowski/
I’ve always been fascinated with the lives of authors, and how they get their works done. While I worked at the bookstore at UNC Asheville I found Mason Currey’s Daily Rituals and started looking deeper into the personal details of creative souls for inspiration. Over the years I had compiled a spreadsheet of birthdates, death dates, publication dates, just for reference at work, and finally it was time to start sharing that with the world.
I hope it inspires you to keep going, keep writing, keep giving your all, because that’s what you’re here to do.
